Map
An interactive map of Lakewood, Ohio where every street is clickable and tells you why it has its name, with a source card for every claim. Streets nobody has solved yet stay gray, with a prompt to help solve them.
Most of the stories come from Romance in Lakewood Streets, a 1962 book by Margaret Manor Butler, published by the Lakewood Historical Society. The book doesn’t cover every street, so neighbors can post what they know, with their sources, and every note carries a trust label.
A time slider brings the streets in by the decade they were platted, and ghost streets show the ones that were renamed or vanished.
It exists because of Noah Veltman’s History of San Francisco Place Names (2013). The idea is his; Lakewood is the tribute.
